Ho Chi Minh City is a locality with a vibrant e-commerce market with the largest scale and growth rate in the country.
Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has just issued a document directing the implementation of tax collection solutions related to the e-commerce sector , in order to continue to strengthen the management of e-commerce activities and ensure correct, full and timely collection of taxes for this business activity.
Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee assigned the City Tax Department to preside over and coordinate with the Departments of Industry and Trade, Information and Communications, Finance, Customs Department, Market Management Department and a number of related units to advise the City People’s Committee on guiding documents on tax collection solutions related to the e-commerce sector no later than November 20, 2024, in order to strive to best complete the task of collecting the state budget in 2024.
In the first 10 months of 2024, total e-commerce revenue in Ho Chi Minh City reached VND 91,962 billion, an increase of 43.7% over the same period, accounting for 33.5% of the country’s e-commerce revenue.
Also during this period, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department reviewed and put 11,606 taxpayers in e-commerce business under management. Tax management revenue for this group of activities was VND562,047 billion, with the total tax payable through declaration being VND7,373 billion.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department, in the coming time, the unit will continue to research effective tax management solutions for e-commerce business activities. The tax agency will proactively work with the Department of Information and Communications and the Department of Industry and Trade to develop a comprehensive program/project for short-term and long-term management; at the same time, build and enrich the database on e-commerce.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department proposed that the General Department of Taxation work with a number of large e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Tiktok… to get a list of suppliers conducting livestream sessions with large revenue. From there, the tax authority will check the units’ compliance with tax laws.
At the same time, make a list and conduct tax reviews and inspections (registration and tax declaration) for individuals who are famous people and content creators in Vietnam on social networking platforms such as Facebook, Tikok, Youtube…
The tax authority will also coordinate through partner companies of Google, Facebook, Tiktok… in Vietnam to verify the income of Youtubers, Tiktokers and celebrities…
