From April 1, 2025, e-commerce platforms and digital platforms will declare and pay taxes on behalf of sellers on these platforms, according to the Law amending a number of articles of the Law on Tax Administration.
Selling cosmetics for mothers and babies through e-commerce platforms , Ms. Dang Thi Phuong (General Director of Maloby Tea Tree Company) said that although self-declaration and self-payment of taxes have been simplified, due to lack of familiarity, tax declaration and payment still takes a lot of time. Sometimes, when busy, forgetting, sellers like her are still fined for late payment. She strongly supports e-commerce platforms paying taxes on behalf of sellers because it saves a lot of time and effort.
“The exchange has a very precise technology platform, so we feel that there will be no mistakes, omissions, or shortages… so that we can fully fulfill our tax obligations to the state,” Ms. Phuong shared.
The Tiktok platform has more than 400,000 manufacturing businesses and 2.8 million sellers. At the moment, the platform is working closely with tax authorities, providing comprehensive suggestions from sellers, from technology research… to deploy solutions in the near future.
The Hanoi Tax Department has identified nearly 627,000 sellers on platforms and social networks, with a transaction value of nearly VND237,000 billion. Along with that, the Hanoi Tax Department is guiding sellers to register for tax and pay taxes on the Electronic Information Portal for households and individuals doing e-commerce business to pay taxes, which has just been launched. These tasks aim to gradually improve the tax collection of e-commerce business people.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Minh – Deputy Director of Hanoi Tax Department said: “We will summarize the proposals and difficulties of the exchanges in the implementation of this new law. We will promptly reflect so that from April 1, 2025, when the law takes effect, the exchanges will fully declare the provisions of the law”.
Technology is considered the key to implementing the new regulations, so the Hanoi Tax Department and localities are working with the platforms to grasp the problems, then synthesize and report to the General Department of Taxation to develop detailed implementation instructions for e-commerce platforms to pay taxes on behalf of sellers.
According to the Ministry of Finance , this new regulation will both better review taxes, prevent tax losses, and reduce costs and administrative procedures. Because only one focal point needs to declare tax obligations on behalf of hundreds of thousands of individuals and business households on the floor. In order for the policy to be implemented most effectively, there have been comments on the implementation of the policy.
