In January 2025, nearly 22,800 businesses nationwide returned to operation.
According to the General Statistics Office, in January 2025, the whole country had nearly 10.7 thousand newly established enterprises with a registered capital of nearly 94.1 thousand billion VND and a registered number of more than 81.5 thousand employees, an increase of 6.6% in the number of enterprises, a decrease of 2.4% in registered capital and a decrease of 14.8% in the number of employees compared to December 2024. Compared to the same period last year, there was a decrease of 30.3% in the number of enterprises, a decrease of 39.3% in registered capital and a decrease of 22.3% in the number of employees.
Along with the number of newly registered enterprises, the country also had nearly 22.8 thousand enterprises returning to operation (nearly 2.6 times higher than the previous month and up 65.2% over the same period in 2024). This is also the highest number of enterprises returning to operation since January 2022 (19.1 thousand enterprises).
With the number of returning businesses increasing, the total number of newly established and returning businesses in January 2025 reached more than 33.4 thousand businesses, an increase of 15.0% over the same period in 2024.
According to the General Statistics Office, the average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in January reached VND8.8 billion, down 8.4% compared to the previous month and down 13% compared to the same period last year. However, the additional registered capital of operating enterprises in January 2025 increased sharply, reaching more than VND367.2 trillion, up 157.9% compared to the same period in 2024.
By economic sector, in January 2025, there were 113 newly established enterprises in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, down 33.9% over the same period last year; 2,544 enterprises in the industry and construction sector, down 29.6%; 7,996 enterprises in the service sector, down 30.4%.
Also in January 2025, more than 52.8 thousand enterprises registered to temporarily suspend business, 12.6 times higher than the previous month and up 20.2% over the same period in 2024; nearly 3.5 thousand enterprises stopped operating pending dissolution procedures, down 82.4% and down 55.2%; 2,021 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, down 13.8% and down 8.3%.
Most of the enterprises that have temporarily suspended their operations are enterprises with a short operating time, less than 5 years with 20,893 enterprises (accounting for 39.6%); mainly concentrated in small scale (less than 10 billion VND) with 47,617 enterprises (accounting for 90.2%).
