Industrial production increased by 8.3% in 10 months, processing and manufacturing continued to lead growth

The industrial production index for the whole industry in the first 10 months of 2024 increased by 8.3% over the same period last year; in which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.6%, higher than the general growth rate of the whole industry…

According to the report data released by the General Statistics Office on the morning of November 6, the index of industrial production (IIP) for the entire industry in October 2024 is estimated to increase by 4.0% compared to the previous month and by 7.0% compared to the same period last year. Of which, compared to the same period last year, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 8.8%; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 6.0%; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 6.9%; the mining industry alone decreased by 10.4%. 

In the first 10 months of 2024, IIP is estimated to increase by 8.3% over the same period last year (increased by 0.5% in the same period in 2023). Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.6% (increased by 0.5% in the same period in 2023), contributing 8.3 percentage points to the overall growth; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 10.3%, contributing 0.9 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 9.5%, contributing 0.2 percentage points; the mining industry alone decreased by 7.2%, reducing the overall growth by 1.1 percentage points.

The report noted that the production index in the first 10 months of 2024 of some key secondary industries increased sharply compared to the same period last year, including: production of rubber and plastic products increased by 26.3%; beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 24.8%; coke, refined petroleum products increased by 16.0%; chemicals and chemical products increased by 14.6%; motor vehicles increased by 14.0%; textiles increased by 12.1%; products from prefabricated metal (except machinery and equipment) increased by 11.9%; leather and related products increased by 11.4%; electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 8.8%; food processing increased by 7.5%.

On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries increased slightly or decreased: other means of transport increased by 3.0%; beverages increased by 0.9%; crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 11.8%; hard coal and lignite mining decreased by 5.9%; repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment decreased by 3.9%; other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 0.4%.

Regarding the industrial production situation of localities across the country in the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, the report of the General Statistics Office recorded an increase in 59 localities and a decrease in 4 localities across the country.

Accordingly, localities with high production index of processing and manufacturing industry in the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year include: Lai Chau increased by 43.9%; Phu Tho increased by 40.7%; Bac Giang increased by 27.7%; Thanh Hoa increased by 19.5%; Quang Nam increased by 19.3%; Tra Vinh increased by 6.6%; Dien Bien increased by 5.7%.

Localities with high growth in the electricity production and distribution sector index: Khanh Hoa increased by 175.2%; Dien Bien increased by 57.1%; Cao Bang increased by 48.5%; Tra Vinh increased by 48.3%; Lai Chau increased by 42.7%; Son La increased by 39.6%; Thanh Hoa increased by 21.9%.

Localities with high mining industry index growth: Cao Bang increased by 30.0%; Thanh Hoa increased by 14.0%; Tra Vinh increased by 6.0%.

In the opposite direction, localities with production index of processing and manufacturing industry in the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year increased slightly or decreased: Bac Lieu increased by 4.9%; Dak Nong increased by 2.8%; Ha Tinh decreased by 5.3%; Gia Lai decreased by 1.8%; Quang Ngai decreased by 1.6%.

Localities with low or decreasing electricity production and distribution indexes: Quang Tri increased by 2.3%; Bac Lieu increased by 0.7%; Lang Son decreased by 16.7%; Quang Ngai decreased by 8.6%; Lam Dong decreased by 5.0%; Gia Lai decreased by 1.5%.

According to the report of the General Statistics Office, in the first 10 months of 2024, some key industrial products increased compared to the same period last year, including: steel bars and angle steel increased by 21.8%; gasoline increased by 17.6%; rolled steel increased by 16.4%; automobiles increased by 15.8%; natural fiber textiles increased by 15.0%; diameter increased by 14.5%; powdered milk increased by 12.8%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 11.5%.

On the contrary, some products decreased compared to the same period last year: natural gas in gas form decreased by 17.3%; liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) decreased by 14.6%; coal (clean coal) decreased by 5.9%; crude oil decreased by 5.8%; mobile phones decreased by 5.6%; beer decreased by 2.6%; aluminum decreased by 1.9%.

Regarding the situation of laborers working in industrial enterprises, the report shows that as of October 1, 2024, it increased by 1.0% compared to the same period last month and increased by 5.7% compared to the same period last year. Of which, laborers in the state-owned enterprise sector increased by 0.2% compared to the same period last month and increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year; non-state enterprises increased by 0.8% and increased by 2.9%; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 1.2% and increased by 7.1%.

By industry, the number of employees working in mining enterprises remained unchanged compared to the same period last month and decreased by 0.1% compared to the same period last year; the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1.1% and 6.1%; the electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution industry remained unchanged and increased by 1.1%; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 0.1% and 1.5%.
