Many businesses are always in a state of shortage of human resources and are still having difficulty in the recruitment process, when they have not yet reached a common voice with employees.
Finding and training high-quality human resources, right from when they are still in school, is considered a necessary and important step in the period of start-up and innovation in Vietnam. Because there is a reality that the current labor market in Ho Chi Minh City has more than 88% of workers who have been trained at many levels. However, although businesses are always in a state of human resource shortage, they are still facing difficulties in the recruitment process when they have not yet reached a common voice with workers.
Looking for a job after deciding to quit because a salary of less than 20 million was not enough to cover living expenses, although there were many options, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung (Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City) was in no hurry to find a new job.
“I quit my old company because of a lot of pressure and the salary was not suitable, and I don’t want to find a new company with the same situation. So during this time, I’m still looking for a more suitable job,” Mr. Dung shared.
The paradox is that recruitment information at the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center as of the end of March 2025 had more than 6,200 positions with an average salary of 50 million VND/month, and more than 1,100 people applied but the number of successful applicants was only 0.
According to the online job board, there are always more than 400,000 job positions in 24 industries, from a survey of more than 300 employers, partly showing the reason for this sad situation.
Ms. Hoang Thi Minh Ngoc – Director of Good Job Center said: “The biggest pain for 55% of employers is that candidates do not really meet their needs and the reality is that only 14% of candidates meet over 80% of the full criteria set by employers”.
Not only is it difficult to recruit, a business specializing in blockchain and AI is also having a headache keeping new employees recruited since the beginning of the year, even though it can only meet 1/5 of the demand for orders from foreign customers.
“Because customer demands put a lot of pressure on time and workload, it is also possible that you are too stressed, making it difficult to retain employees,” said Mr. To Dinh Thi – Director of Dynamic Connection Company, Ho Chi Minh City.
The gap between recruitment and workers will tend to increase when in the near future, the labor force from the public sector, which is highly appreciated for its qualifications, capacity and experience but lacks adaptive skills, will participate in the labor market . This is also the problem that Ho Chi Minh City needs to solve in addition to implementing the project to improve the quality of human resources for development goals.
