Vietnamese rice is the most expensive in the world

On November 23, according to a survey of the export market, Vietnamese rice prices continued to increase slightly and lead the region.

The price of 5% broken rice in Vietnam is 522 USD/ton. This price is much higher than other countries exporting the same type of rice such as Thailand at 490 USD/ton, India at 452 USD/ton, Pakistan at 458 USD/ton, Myanmar at 500 USD/ton.

The price of 25% broken rice in Vietnam is at 485 USD/ton, higher than other countries such as Thailand at 452 USD/ton, India at 438 USD/ton, and Pakistan at 421 USD/ton.

Overall, Vietnam’s rice export prices continue to lead the region, significantly higher than other suppliers.

The Philippines remains the largest buyer of Vietnamese rice, accounting for over 45% of total exports, followed by Indonesia at 14.4% and Malaysia at 8.5%. Indonesia’s continued purchase of some specialty rice varieties from Vietnam has helped to keep the export market intact.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, by November 15, Vietnam’s rice exports had reached 8.05 million tons with a value of 5.05 billion USD. 

In contrast, Vietnam also increased its rice imports, reaching 3.2 million tons of rice in the first 10 months of the year, equivalent to 1.2 billion USD. This level increased by nearly 73% compared to the same period last year, making Vietnam the third largest rice importer in the world, after the Philippines and Indonesia.

In the domestic market, the price of paddy and rice in the Mekong Delta region increased last week for some types. According to the update of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang, the price of some types of rice purchased by traders is: IR 50404 from 7,600 – 7,800 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice is priced from 7,600 – 7,800 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND/kg; OM 380 is 7,000 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 (fresh) is from 8,600 – 8,800 VND/kg, an increase of 400 VND/kg and OM 18 (fresh) is from 8,500 – 8,600 VND/kg …

Regarding rice products in the retail market in An Giang, regular rice costs from 16,000 – 17,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice from 20,000 – 22,000 VND/kg; Jasmine rice from 17,000 – 18,000 VND/kg; common white rice 17,500 VND/kg, Nang Hoa rice 21,500 VND/kg…

IR 504 Summer-Autumn raw rice is at 10,400 – 10,500 VND/kg; IR 504 finished rice is stable at 12,400 – 12,550 VND/kg.

For by-products, the price of by-products of all kinds fluctuates between 6,000 – 9,400 VND/kg. Currently, the price of OM 5451 broken rice is stable at 9,300 – 9,400 VND/kg; the price of dry bran is at 6,000 – 6,100 VND/kg.
